Indonesia AFIS Security Solution

With a population of 270 million people over 13,000 islands, and covering a land mass of nearly 2 million square kilometers, Indonesia is vast and unique in its makeup.

Fragmented internal borders and the rough terrain presented Indonesian law enforcement agencies with the immense challenge of identifying, tracking, and documenting crime in an organised,  centralised manner. This included registering and verifying suspected criminals, identifying terrorist threats, and documenting crime scenes.

The Indonesian (Automated Fingerprint Identification System) AFIS authority needed a biometric solution to ensure that they could track incidents of crime and registered criminals across thousands of islands. The technology has to withstand difficult terrain and limited infrastructure while linking the information gathered to both local and international criminal databases.

Recording and communicating this information, and verifying the data against existing identity databases was the main requirement for the success of the authorities for this project. Managing these challenges required customised, reliable technology solutions to improve the efficiency of law enforcement.

"Being part of the solution to reduce challenges for the frontline in Indonesia is very rewarding, and clearly demonstrates the importance of on-the-spot biometric solutions for effective law enforcement."

Laxton’s production facility in Guangzhou, China produces the tailored hardware and software solutions required for every project. Our team of experts ensures that hardware is configured to meet client requirements and that the software systems stay at the forefront of leading-edge identity technology.

Innovative solutions to unique challenges

Our multi-faceted team of experts designed, manufactured, and delivered a tailored identity system to meet the unique conditions Indonesia presented. Combining our multi-modal biometric technology, national database information, and proven forensic methodology, law enforcement officials are in a stronger position to combat crime and protect their citizens, despite its fragmented internal borders.

Our solution integrated key biometric features including massive data storage capacity and computer processing speeds to lift data-heavy files and manage huge biometric databases.

The lightweight and rugged design of the devices makes it possible for law enforcement officials to carry them into the field. This is necessary for densely populated urban areas, and remote, isolated areas, where speed is critical to the success of a criminal investigation.

Devices also needed to be compact and mobile, for officers to carry into remote locations, while also being able to operate where electricity and internet access was limited or absent.

The hardware required by Indonesian law enforcement is strategically devised to meet all requirements, and use the latest in software systems, while considering the country’s unique infrastructure challenges.

Technology to improve safety and security

By introducing Laxton technology systems into law enforcement agencies, the Indonesian government could ramp up its fight against drug trafficking, human trafficking, corruption, and terrorism. Not only would this have a tremendous impact on its own citizens, but by better protecting the safety of international tourists, the initiative could boost tourism and the local economy.
